Description
Jacob’s ladder is a perennial with erect green-brown stems with clusters of blue-purple and white flowers and ladder-like leaves. It grows up to 90cm tall.
Habitat Information
Almost all true wild populations of Jacob’s-ladder are restricted to stabilised limestone screes in upland areas where tall grasslands develop. As a garden escape it is quite often found at the edges of woodland and, in more recent years, it has been used in pollinator mixtures. Because of its rarity and limited distribution in the wild we would not recommend sowing this species in upland limestone country..
Growing Information
Sow outdoors in Spring or Autumn in moist but well-drained soils. It grows best in partial shade.
