Description

Field pansy is the commonest of our wild pansies. An annual growing to about 40cm it usually has pale cream flowers with orange throats streaked with violet. Flowering starts in April and continues until hit by cold weather.

Habitat Information

Field pansy is an annual of cultivated and disturbed land particularly those that are on light, well-drained soils. It is still a common plant of many arable fields and can be frequently found in old gravel pits and waste land.
It is unlikely that field pansy is native to Britain but was probably inadvertently introduced with grain back in the mists of times.

Growing Information

Easy to grow from seed sown at any time of the year.
