× Umbilicus rupestris - Navelwort

Description

Navelwort is a distinctive looking flowering plant with disc-shaped succulent green leaves and flower spikes with small straw coloured or greenish-white flowers. It flowers between June – August and is a perennial. The leaves have been known to be used in salads. It is named Navelwort due to the flower spike growing from the centre of the leaf, leaving a dimple, similar to a navel.

Habitat Information

Navelwort can be found growing in walls, stony banks, rocky areas and in woodland, particularly in shaded areas.

Growing Information

Easily grown from seed sown any time of the year.
