Description
Water figwort is a tall, native perennial with an obviously winged, square stem, opposite leaves and a characteristically shaped red brown flower.
Habitat Information
Water figwort is a plant of permanently damp soils and is found at the margins of lakes, rivers and streams and in ditches, wet hollows and marshes. It is reasonably shade tolerant and can often be found in wet woodlands. Although bees are commonly seen collecting pollen and nectar for this species the structure of its flowers has evolved to be specifically pollinated by species of social wasps.
Growing Information
Best sown onto bare damp soil at any time of the year.
