Description
This medium height grassland perennial could be described as the down land version of Meadowsweet. Dropwort differs from Meadowsweet in having a more open, and possibly more attractive, flower cluster with fewer but larger unscented flowers. Flowering occurs from May to August.
Habitat Information
Dropwort is a native perennial of chalk and limestone downs and on heaths over limestone, chalk and other basic rocks. It can be found in quite rough grassland where it can persist for many years. However it does require an open sward for regeneration and so in the absence of any grazing or cutting it will eventually be lost.
Growing Information
A spring germinating plant best sown in the autumn.
